WHAT'S IN A NAME

The name came in a dream. Yes it's morbid, but that's life.

Since birth as humans, we're sold the lie that we all share the same experience. If we feel different than the typical human experience, then something is wrong with us.

For those of us who lead lives that look or feel different from the human experience, we can feel othered, marginalized, forgotten. At best, we can be left out; at worst, we're abused for what makes us different.

But it all might leave one feeling, at times... not human, just because of how one looks, feels, one's body's reaction or lack thereof.

But the truth is, we are all still human. Obviously.

And at the end, with all our differing experiences as humans, at the very end when all the dust settles, the bones remain.

The Bones

Our products are getting back to the very foundation of what personal care is meant to be. No fluff and stuff to market or sell our soap or hair gel to more people.

We believe fragrance oils and color additives are wildly unnecessary in most personal care items, and yet somehow they have worked their way into every part of our personal care routines.

Our aim is to strip all that away and focus on the ingredients that matter. We want to make products with intentionality for people who may be more sensory sensitive than others.

Accommodating people's reactions to unnecessary ingredients shouldn't be the exception; it should be the primary goal.

And we know that "sensory sensitive" is broad, and that everyone has different experiences. For that reason, we are open to hearing about what you're looking for. We can't solve all the problems, but we'll do what we can to help with a few.

Please reach out with any requests, thoughts, or feedback. Bones Remain is all about doing things different, and that includes listening. We're excited to hear from you.

A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Hey there, I'm Andi.

I started my first personal care manufacturing business in 2013.

From there, I grew and ran a company of brands producing skin care, hair care, & soaps for a decade, with warehouses in Seattle & Nashville, plus a barbershop to experience the goods in person in Nashville, etc.

Life and my journey through it took me away from those businesses for a time, but I found myself back to the industry eventually.

Specifically, January 2024, a truck lost control on the freeway, spun out, and hit my car head on. At that time, I was living in a house that had mold in the walls that I wasn't aware of. The combined trauma of these two circumstances changed my life forever.

On one hand, I developed fibromyalgia from my physical injuries. On the other, I developed Mast Cell Activation Syndrome from the long term exposure to mold while my body was injured. The inflammation from both traumas caused the conditions to flip on with severity.

It left me sensory sensitive to everything. Soaps made my skin itch, fragrances in hair creams gave me migraines, shampoos made my scalp burn.

I found myself in a world that was suddenly too bright, too loud, with too many smells, etc. I know many can relate.

I felt less and less human, as my body felt like it was revolting on me. Daily, I struggled with the feelings of being less than what I was, less than others who could just exist without pain.

Then finally one day, I told myself I was still just as human as always, just experiencing more than the average person. It was all just noise; I still had the bones of what it meant to be human, what it meant to be me.

And so Bones Remain is my story and how I'm coping with the world of disability and sensitivity I've found myself in.

If you're on a similar journey, I'm glad you found us, and I hope we can help make the journey a little less...fragranced, for sensory's sake.

OUR STATEMENT ON AI

We reduce, where possible, any AI use because we believe the real power in creating something good and sustainable comes from real people. Our web site was created and written by our founder. Each product is handmade with care.

We firmly believe that AI is a detriment to society, particularly in how it is destroying the environment, and we choose to opt out of using it wherever possible. We are regularly looking at ways to continue to reduce our footprint, and hope to do more to proactively help the environment, but it starts with making the choice to not actively and needlessly participate in its harm.
